The Connecticut Department of Education’s Parent’s Guide to Special Education in Connecticut defines special education as "specially designed instruction to meet a student’s unique needs and to enable the student to access the general curriculum of the school district".

The Region 20 School District prioritizes the whole child and offers a continuum of supports for students with unique learning challenges.
